Coelho (KOO-AL-yoo), means “rabbit” in Portuguese, and in fact the winery uses Portuguese winemaking techniques which have been influenced by the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks, and originate with the Romans. Their Woodburn soil is a combination of volcanic and sedimentary soil from ancient flooding.
They non-irrigate and plant grass between the vines to stress the plants because judicial vine stress cultivates more concentrated fruit flavors. Coelho uses sustainable viticulture practices including LIVE and Salmon Safe & they are located in the Willamette Valley American Viticulture Area (AVA).
