- They implement practices to reduce reliance on synthetic chemicals and fertilizers with the goal of protecting the farmer, the environment, and communities at large
- They encourage responsible stewardship of the land while maintaining natural fertility and ecosystem stability
- They promote sustainable farming methods that maintain biological diversity on the whole farm
- Through L I V E's partner, Salmon-Safe, they work to protect watersheds from negative impacts of farming so that fish can thrive
- They minimize inputs in the wine making process with preference given to cultural and natural processes over chemical substitutes
- They conserve resources by reduction and responsible use of energy, water, and raw materials
- They reduce and responsibly manage solid and liquid winery waste materials
- The work to achieve reductions in greenhouse gas emissions
- They treat their workers fairly and provide them with adequate and safe working conditions

SALMON SAFE is a non-profit, independent organization based in Portland, Oregon dedicated to restoring and maintaining healthy watersheds so that salmon can spawn and thrive. Wineries commitment to non-irrigated viticulture and restricted usage of chemicals fertilizers and chemical pest control contributed to the certification of many Willamette Valley Vineyards in the SALMON SAFE program.
