PAUSE PAUSE PAUSE Their estate winery in the Dundee Hills creates elegant, fine Pino Noir, and Chardonnay wines, forged from their family's tradition of fine wine making in France. American winemakers have long sought instruction and validation from prestigious Old World producers. Oregon Pino Noir gained credibility, and encouragement, when Robert Drouhin, of Beaune France, a leader in Burgundy since 1880, was so impressed with Eyrie winery's showing in 1979, and 1980 in France, that he realized it was Oregon, not California, that was the new-world spot for Burgundian wines, like pino noir and chardonnay. In 1988, he bought this 225 acre wheat field and Christmas tree farm, and here established Domaine Drouhin. Their investment in Oregon was made after long study and some hesitation. At Drouhin's request, vintner David Adelsheim had been scouting for suitable land. He took the Burgundian to see the property in 1987, during the first International Pino Noir Celebration. Drouhin says, "I checked the statistics on climate, asked for all the geological maps and, more important, I walked the ground. I remember looking at the slopes, the texture of the soil, the vegetation that was there, asking about springs in the area. It's a classical approach. Even so, I hesitated, because the soil was so different from Burgundy. How was it possible to produce a good wine?" Just remembering the Eyrie winery 1975 vintage, he got out his checkbook. French soul, Oregon soil, is their motto, which means a darker, earthier style of pino noir than the ones you'll typically find in Oregon. It’s the closest you can get to French wine in the state, and comes with a matching price point. This is wine for impressing, not for a casual dinner at home. Ask about their, 2019 Roserock Chardonnay. It's a gorgeous expression of vineyard and vintage. Rating it an impressive, 99 points, the Wine Advocate says, "it is absolutely stunning, and I simply can't put it down." "This is the sixth vintage of Roserock Chardonnay that we've produced, they say, since purchasing this incredible vineyard in late 2013. With its ancient volcanic soils, ideal elevation range, and direct influence from the wind-driven Van Duzer corridor, Roserock has already carved a unique and seemingly effortless reputation for excellence. The building, in fact the first building built as a winery in Oregon, is a striking work of architecture, in harmony with the natural beauty of its surroundings. It's a merger of the Old and New Worlds; its simplicity echoes the gracefully articulated roofs of the early farm buildings in the valley, while the detailing of windows, doors and roof tiles discreetly reveals its French influence. You're invited to enjoy a flight of 4 wines (pino Noirs & chardonnay). Domaine Drouhin Oregon PAUSE PAUSE PAUSE PAUSE PAUSE PAUSE |

GROUPS "We do allow larger groups at Domaine Drouhin. Groups of 15-20 people we need have come in by 10:30am. Groups of 20 or more need to be here by 10:00am. In order to give our best hospitality to all of our guests, we need to limit the amount of large groups we see after we are officially open at 11:00. With very large groups, it is much easier for us if one person pays the tasting fee. We charge for the tasting fees after all bottle purchases have been made. We do not allow food on premise as the smell can often interfere with the tasting experience of other customers". Cheers, Dyane Savino, CSW | Tasting Room Manager Winery: (503) 864-2700 | |
