NEW PACKAGE: OREGON: VALLEY & COAST
|
2022It is warm for early March. It's almost time for budburst, that exciting first sign of the growing season. It tends to occur between March and April when the average daily air temperature has consistently exceeded 50 degrees F. As the wine is poured in all its semi-translucent, bright purple regality, I check the temperature. 57 degrees. Some call this 'fool's spring', as it can often precede a vast drop in temperature in March or even April where nighttime frosts can kill the buds that began their life thanks to the false dawn early in the year. It's not uncommon to hear stories of great swathes of a winegrower's vineyard being lost to damage from the elements. And 2022 has proved no exception. Early April frosts have led to bonfires all across winemaking Oregon. But as the first months of Summer rolled by, the vines' backup system deployed: secondary buds produced shoots and leaves and the tiny primordial clusters that turn into plump clusters for making wine. It appears we'll have a fine harvest this fall. |

Pre 1st century Romans were crazy for Pinot and carried around little papyrus Pinot vintage charts. Only they kept drinking too early because the years went backwards." Read more. |
Why the pricey wine prices?
They’re gradually kicking their farming back into the Stone Age, replacing awkward tractors with sure-footed mules.
Muleteers, however, are in short supply; everyone in shouting distance prefers growing his own grapes to laboring over others, thank you.
Crazy-hard work, high labor costs, painfully low yields and some of the best vineyards anywhere result in hefty prices for these wines. No matter. They are rich and complex with intense character like nowhere else on earth, and people are happy to pay."

Tours, Retreats & Escapes to Oregon Wine Country...40 minutes from downtown Portland.'We are now in the land of wheat, berries, sunshine & Pinot!'... In 1805, Meriwether Lewis and his friend Captain Clark took a trip to Oregon wine country. 'What more can man ask of heaven?', Lewis asked. Lewis & Clark continually ordered staples such as olive oil, almonds, artichoke hearts and stocks of Pinot Noir* for the rest of their lives!* Hit the road and take a ride along some of the most scenic highways in America visiting some of the most charming places in Oregon. *French Burgundy |

Everything was perfect. A classy outfit to work with. The day couldn't have been better. We will return."
Greg R. "
Excellent, first class all the way. We already had some wineries planned out to visit so the driver was able to accommodate our request and fit in some visits to other interesting wineries along the route.
Keep up the good work. I've been on wine tours in California (north & central coast), Europe, South America, NZ & Australia and this ranks among the best!"

OVERALL RATING - Excellent
Not only did we learn the history of the territory, but also of the goings on in the towns we toured in. Wonderful experience. Brilliant young guide. And we would definitely tour with them again."
"The guide was happy to answer questions and clearly know their stuff. They're passionate about what they're showing us and talking to us about. We drank some really nice wine too!! I'll definitely be booking other tours of Portlandia with this company."
"They made so much wine that at one point, they offered to just go ahead and pump it into the vineyard fountain, so everyone could enjoy it!"
"If we had to pick a spot that embodies almost everything that defines the Willamette Valley, the triangular towns of Newberg/Dundee, Carlton & McMinnville is it, culminating with dozens of hidden wineries, which almost no one knows about."
"This was a very interesting insight into the origins of Oregon wine country. Thoroughly recommended to everyone who enjoys their history washed down with a pour of delicious Pinot."
