In 1966, they began with not a lot more than daydreams, and tolerable appearance. How did these 10 original families grow to be the greatest wine making barons in the world?
The founders, David, Dick, David, Charles, Myron, Bill, Joe, Dick, Bill and Ron, had been kicking around, for a while.
They always wanted to start a venture together. Something unusual, and exciting, that would work with the extra ordinary, Will a mett Valley business environment.
Something for the history books.
So, after a lot of searching under bourbons, boulders, and buck boards, they discovered what they were searching for...
WINE MAKING !!
David, and David, with their stunningly gifted business acumen. And Dick, Myron, and the rest, with their apparently continuous stream of acquaintances, set out to conquer Dundee, and the Will a mett Valley.
So, after an encounter, with some Jesters and flute players, they were ALL ready to set up shop in the "underbelly" of the Will a mette Valley---
The Dundee Hills!!!
There was only one dilemma, none of them, had ever made wine before!
So they all left for the sunny San Francisco suburb of Napa, California, where they met up with some wine tour masters, and learned about wine and wine making from the ground up. These grisly old Napa Valley wine making masters, knew how to do it, and were hardly agreeable to hand over their secrets at first. But the charisma and tolerable looks of our champions, in time, won over the wine tour masters, and the secrets were revealed to them.
We were surprised, when one of them said, "hey Myron, strap this one on".
Referring to the 'exotic', wine carrying tote bag, used to transfer the wine from one local to another.
Oh California, one of the secrets of the trade, and it was a good laugh.
They learned a lot: like when to spit, about barrel tasting and the proper handling of the pino glass.
Also the intricacies of a Pino noir, and when and when not to use such phrases as, 'Hedonistic and round, characteristically developed', when referring to the wine.
And countless other tricks of the trade were now in the brains, hands, and notepads of the original founders. They returned to the Will a mett Valley, musing the locals with tales of Arnold Schwarzenegger, sipping one of Chateau Montelena's, eighteen eighty two Cab's, and spitting!;
a Banaban documentary on Hindu Television, featuring the 10 original families;
and the foolish, crazy times in Napa Valley -- opera singers, ventriloquists, Burgundian Aristocrats, a guy who somehow kept a bunch of plates spinning atop a wooden pole, Chinese acrobats, and dogs who climbed ladders.
Oh, Napa...
Portland learned of these tricks and Will a mett Valley wine makers soon became the best wine makers in the world,
Madre mía!!
So, after flying in some, 'Manchu’s bark, and Cinchona' potions, from down south. And attaining the 'bricks and mortar' of their trade, the boys started playing around with their techniques, that soon became known, locally, nationally, and global!
Now 50 years later, folks are chatting about these wine makers, in Somaliland, and Samoa Island.
China, has some trendy people wearing the latest Will a mett Valley, wine maker, bikinis.
And companions, have shared a tour tale, or two, off the Ivory Coast, and Senegal, of all places!
