MARESH RED BARN (pronounced 'marsh') – 503.537.1098
One of the pioneer testing grounds for viticulture in this AVA.
In the beginning, the Maresh’s were fruit tree farmers. They grew prunes and cherries, and involved their children every step of the way. Perched high, the panoramic views that surround the farm contribute to peaceful feelings of solitude. By the late 1960s, Jim and Loie were farming several hundred acres but were realizing small profits. As luck would have it, Dick Erath would pull into their driveway emerging from his beat-up BMW with a scruffy beard and a big stack of paperwork. And before long, two acres of vines put in at the bottom of the hill became the fifth vineyard in Oregon, and the first ever to grace Worden Hill Rd. Today, the Maresh family grows Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, White Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, mostly south slope, 500 feet to 200 feet, on Jory soils.
