MONKS GATE
ABOUT THE WINERY:
What began simply as a way to “get back to the land”, after a decades long departure from ranching roots in Colorado, in 1998, the proud owners of 50 acres of over- grown Christmas trees, scrub oak, and 18’ high blackberry bushes, are now a 20 acre Pino noir and Riesling vineyard.
A wonderful old barn, or what was left of it, with birdhouses lining each side of the peaked roof, and an equally antiquated farm house, that had never seen heat, not produced by a wood burning stove, completed the picture.
...
It is located in the now-acclaimed Yamhill-Carlton A V A of Oregon’s Northern Willamette Valley, where they were drawn to the maritime climate of cool nights, warm dry summer days, and, of course, the opportunity to produce stellar wines!
The predominant soil type is Willakenzie, a silty clay loam (marine sediment) over siltstone. Although the gophers give rise, to occasional piles of, bright red clay-based, volcanic soils, found, in hills, of a neighboring region.
...
Fast forward to 2021, and they are ready to devote all of their attention to sustainable farming, and providing outstanding fruit to their contracting wineries - including that for the MonksGate label.
And, yes, they did install a gateway (the Monks Gate), complete with statue of Saint Francis of Assisi, in the fencing to assure the monks, next door, at the Trappist Abbey, may continue their contemplative walks unimpeded.
For those of you just joining their venture, Welcome, and they hope that you find their Estate wines and the dirt to glass experience they are so fortunate to share, as exciting as they do.
Cheers!

LG. GROUPS
Thanks so much for reaching out to us! We welcome smaller groups (up to 12 ppl) for regular tastings, and larger groups by appointment only. As you probably know, we are a somewhat rustic property (read, our tasting room is also a workshop lol) and operated by just my folks and myself so we like to keep things fairly intimate for a quality tasting experience. We do have a lovely picnic area with a great view of the valley and could arrange for a casual luncheon experience as well for the smaller groups with optional vineyard tour for $25ea.
Our wines are also handcrafted in small lots where each clone is vinified separately until just before blending so our quantities are limited. We are happy to offer 10% off on case purchases and waive our very modest $5 tasting fee with any purchase.
Let us know if any of this fits with what you like to offer and we can arrange a time to chat further about details!
Again, thanks for reaching out.
Cheers,
Rebecca
