The winemaker of the famed Bonny Doon Vineyard gushes that the best domestic Voignier (Ve-on-yeh) he’s ever tasted is from Syncline Cellars.
Syncline was founded by a Mantone husband-wife team and named for a nearby geological feature, the Bingen Syncline. James and Poppie Mantone's winery, founded in 1999, offers Mosel and quirky Rhone region (Southern France) -inspired varietals, bright, lemony Picpoul to wild Carignan-grenache. Then Pinot noir to a six-varietals 'Subduction Red' to a rosé blend of cincsault, grenache and carignan.
well-balanced pinot noir
Syncline comes complete with a hammock-lined picnic area and firepit amid lichen-tagged oak trees and the use of old-world concrete fermentation vessels, called the eggs.
The tasting fee is $10 per flight, each fee is waived upon purchase of 2 or more bottles.
Picnic baskets available for $32. Ask hostess for details.
