Alloro Vineyard
—Sweeping across a west-to-east southern aspect on Laurel Ridge in the Chehalem Mountains AVA, deep wind-blown loess topsoil over decomposed basalt at 450 – 700 feet of elevation creates optimal conditions for sustainable, dry farming at their LIVE Certified Sustainable site.
The farm is spread across 100 acres in a diversified landscape reminiscent of the Old World. Heritage sheep mow vineyard cover crops in early spring. Manure from Hereford cattle is spread in their hay fields as fertilizer. And bounty arrives at the table from a large garden, fruit orchards, and nut trees—to complement their grass-fed beef and lamb.
Note the quality differences between the Alloro wines---more minerality and lean (svelte)---and their Dundee Hills Elevee wines, with their brighter fruit and potentially forever finishes. "Wine is a compound," says GM Tom Fitzpatrick, "the ingredients are grapes, people and time," adding that the special character of Oregon wine derives from a "small is beautiful" way of life--hands-on, high touch and down to scale".
Planted in 1999, their 34-acre vineyard is devoted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and Muscat.
$20PP (waived with 3 bottles purchased)
