Hawks View Cellars
Hawks View Cellars caretakers enjoy the sweeping views of the Cascade Mountains while pruning grapes on east-facing slopes of laurelwood and loess soils.
They LIVE certified sustainably farm and care for over 50 acres of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris grapes in the Chehalem Mountains AVA.
Low Input Viticulture and Enology, provides third party, independent certification of specific sustainable practices in the vineyard and winery.
The AVA is notable for its distinctive Laurelwood soils, which produce remarkable fruit.
Laurelwood soil is made up of loess (an established soil type made up of windblown silty loam) and the underlying volcanic/ Jory sub-soil. Hawks View is 100% Laurelwood. Their soil provides a unique flavor profile for Pinot noir grapes grown here.
This hill of dirt, Laurelwood over volcanic basalt, was formed in the last fifteen thousand years from the windblown silty loams of the Missoula flood. The wines grown here have bright red fruit, with an earthiness and nice acidity, making them perfect to go with high end food. They are very different from the Dundee AVA or other areas. The Chehalem Mountains AVA makes wines as elegant as a string of pearls.
They also produce Syrah & Chardonnay.
The Chehalem Mountains includes the Who's Who of Oregon Pinot noir and produces wines of extraordinary character and quality.
"Come for the wine. Stay for the view."
Tasting (6 wines): $25 per person
Charcuterie
Artisanal charcuterie and cheese boards are available for purchase for $15 - $25.
